METHOD
Psychogenetics is a practical method that explores how inherited predispositions and learned behavioural patterns shape the way we think, feel, and act. It recognizes that both genetic factors and life experience influence how we perceive and respond to the world, helping you understand how family influences and past experiences form your current beliefs, reactions, and expectations.
Within this approach, the family is viewed as a structured system where patterns, concepts, and coping strategies are passed down across generations. Some patterns may become limiting, affecting decisions and outcomes in ways that no longer serve you.
Psychogenetics helps uncover the root causes of recurring challenges by identifying the underlying core concepts or beliefs that drive the patterns – for example, a recurring challenges in relationships may stem from the belief about trust “The world is unsafe”. By revealing the connection between past influences and your current experiences, this approach facilitates lasting shifts in thinking, behaviour, and overall life direction.
Awareness · Analysis · Action
1. Awareness – Recognising the Pattern
We start by identifying recurring themes in your life: repeated outcomes, emotional responses, decision-making habits, or relational dynamics.
2. Analysis – Understanding the System
Using structured genogram analysis (a detailed, graphical display of a family's history), we map your family system across generations to identify: inherited belief structures, implicit rules around success, money, relationships, visibility, authority and repeating emotional or behavioural dynamics. The focus is reinterpretation of past experiences – not blame.
3. Action – Creating Deliberate Change
Once identified, limiting patterns are transformed into constructive approaches aligned with your goals. This process creates new ways of thinking, guides decision-making, and fosters lasting change.
The work is analytical, reflective, and practical – designed for implementation, not just understanding.
